Galapagos Islands By Richard and Linda Seale Galapagos Islands? Oh yes, that place where Charles Darwin stopped on his trip aboard the Beagle. It was also the place that helped him develop his theories that led to the publication of his book Origin of Species. Since my studies were in the biological sciences, I have always wanted to get to the Galapagos. Linda and I were quite amazed that Road Scholar, the old Elderhostel, had tours to these mysterious islands and that these tours were for small groups on board a pretty small boat. We signed up for an early March trip. Going to Ecuador, the country that has possession of the Galapagos, also means going to the equator, which meant escaping a rather wintry and bleak March here in Pine Knoll Shores. (Continued on page 3) May 2013 Meet Sarah Williams By Phyllis Makuck The smiling face of Deputy Town Clerk Sarah Guthrie Williams welcomes every one who enters the office at town hall. As deputy clerk, she assists with meetings of the Planning Board, Community Appear ance Commission and Parks and Recre ation Committee. She also works with the Board of Commissioners and the recy cling program, processes water payments, assists the building inspector, answers the phone and, of course, greets people. Sarah started working with the town in September 2012. Prior to that, she was a property manager with Emerald Isle Realty and had retail jobs in the sum mers when she was in college.
